Banned books in school have always been a controversial subject. Famous works of literature like D.H. Lawrence’s Lady Chatterly’s Lover, Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and J.D. Salinger’s Catcher in the Rye have long been subject to debate on whether their content is appropriate.
Recently, a book that both Melissa and I have read and loved — The Absolute True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie — was the topic of a censorship fight at a Chicago school. Parents objected to its sexual content, mostly in reference to the main character, a 14-year-old boy, who talks about masturbation. (Really, is this a big revelation?)
In December, the same book was pulled from an Oregon school’s curriculum when a parent raised a ruckus, but thankfully the Chicago school’s board members decided to keep the book on the list. Score for the 1st Amendment!
Let’s be honest: nothing in this book is any worse than what’s on MTV or what you can read on Perez Hilton. Part-Time Indian isn’t about masturbation; it’s a fictionalized account of Alexie’s struggles to maintain his life on a reservation while integrating into an all-white school. And it’s awesome. I Heart Daily (AND fred flare) definitely recommend!

I don’t know how many of you actually love Kevin Jonas, but he’s off the market. He proposed to his girlfriend, Danielle Deleasa, and she said YES! (Doesn’t she look a lot like Hayley Duff?) I can’t believe he’s getting married, he’s only 21 years old! But here’s what he had to say: “She said yes, yes, yes like 500 times super fast in a row!” Kevin told People. As some of you may have noticed, I was out ALL last week… For those of you who didn’t notice… MEAN! Just Kidding! Anyhoot, I was in Puerto Rico for my very first REAL vacation! IT WAS SO AWESOME! Seriously, life changing! I never thought I’d be that person that comes home and wants to show everyone slideshows of their vacay, but I so am! I had such a spectac time that I thought I’d share some pics with ya.
Pete and I went to a fancy resort in Fajardo, PR and kicked back to relax for 7 days! We chilled at the spa, partied at the splash bar (a bar in the pool) and toured a tropical rain forest! So relaxing and really lovely! Every single person we met commented on our sunnies, all of which were compliments of fred flare! Right before I left, I purch’d like 5 pairs (on top of my extensive collection of ALL OF THEM!). I was most excited about wearing the Navajo, but clearly, Pete was too and he called em before we even got off the plane! Totes fine tho, cuz I rawk’d the Charlies like everyday! But I must admit, as much fun as we were having, we were really excited to get home to the city. I had no idea how much I really needed a vacay and now that I’m back at work, I LOVE IT EVEN MORE! Is that possible?! I didn’t think so, but it happened. I really missed everyone! It was the longest I ever went, without looking at www.fredflare.com, which was causing a bit of withdrawal… For real! Round two for Madonna and Louis Vuitton. Holy photoshop, Batman… These are high intensity, color corrected, negatives and they look a little like the hypercolor fad from the 80’s… Which means I like it! Maybe you don’t actually get to see the bags as they are IRL, but if you’re buying what they are selling, I doubt you care so much about that. I can’t help but think that Madonz looks like an old timey, hawt ghost of a “lady of the night”… Dontcha think?
I know I don’t need to repeat myself over and over, but I really love Britney Spears. That being said, I feel like I need to be honest about her new video… LAME! Not feeling it at all! As a video diva she really should have taken this one to the next level, cuz I kinda loved the song before I was bored out of my mind watching the accompanying video. Am I being way harsh or is this a lame duck in her flock of GREAT videos?
