Getting off the subway today, I heard some ruckus on the street above me. Lots of cheering, and what sounded like a band. Huh? When I got to the top of the stairs, I realized today was the New York City Marathon. I completely forgot! And there they were, running right down Manhattan Avenue. Luckily, I had left for work early today so I was able to watch for a while before heading over to Store Cute.

I was totally shocked at the variety of runners! From teenagers, to men and women who looked like they were pushing 90 years old, to people in costumes (My fave was a guy in an awesome Beyonce Single Ladies outfit), to people running while pushing others in wheelchairs. I couldn’t believe it! The crowd was so supportive, cheering on strangers, and holding up signs of encouragement like “It’s ok to cry!”. I have to admit, I totally started tearing up at all of the positive energy.

26.2 miles is no easy fete. Most people probably don’t even DRIVE that far in day. A huge CONGRATULATIONS to all of today’s Marathon runners! You are all truly amazing and a complete inspiration.
